Advertising photography draws the viewer into the message by exciting their curiosity and interest. In order to execute an advertisement and communicate the benefits of a product successfully, the photographer my learn and know the target audience.
There is more to photography than what it seem. I would know. I myself am an amature photographer, a black Friday christmas gift, and a half semester of J316 (photography) later I know and appreciate the world of photography more than ever. . Photography, specifically advertising photography is not as easy as it looks. Along with having to know the technical functions of taking a picture such as setting the correct aperture (fstop) shutter speed and getting the perfect exposure, you also have to be an expert in the fields of business, marketing, and advertising. Success, depends on ones ability to grasp and combind the principals of all the above.
One of the biggest aspects of advertising is visual marketing, otherwise it would be solely based on word alone. The use of a compelling image in an advertisement can captivate and engage the audience…. That is the key, and the purpose of advertising photography.
